GABRIELE SMIRIGLIA
Video and lighting creation
Gabriele SMIRIGLIA is a videographer and lighting designer.
Born in Sicily, he settled in Veneto in the early 2000s to study art history, theatre and cinema at the University of Padua.
Gabriele Smiriglia has an eclectic background between lighting design, video and photography.
During his student years he attended the Ipotesi Cinema film school in Bologna, run by directors Ermanno Olmi and Mario Brenta.
In the spotlight, he trained with Michele Sambin at the TAM Teatro Musica in Padua, Henk Danner, Emio Greco PC company in Amsterdam and Emmanuel Ferreira at the Théâtre du Vieux Colombier (Comédie Française) in Paris.
Interested in research, he wrote a thesis on " The dramaturgy of light in contemporary dance ", in parallel at the University of the Sorbonne Nouvelle (Theatre Studies) and at the University of Padua (Entertainment Sciences and Multimedia Production).
In the world of dance, he has collaborated since 2012 with the company Emio Greco PC as a videographer, and with the dancer/neuroscientist Asaf Bachrach.
He also works on lighting and video creations with directors Marcus Borja, Hakim Bah, Dan Jemmett, Mietta Corli, Emilie Rault and Sigrid Carré.
In September 2017 he presented, as assistant director, the film Li chiamavano Ribelli by Lucia Filippone at the 74th Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica in Venice.
In the world of cinema, in 2021 he was director of photography and colorist of the film Note di Notte by Marcus Borja, shot at the Rosa Bonheur castle.
Currently he works as a video director at the Comedie Française, he is a trainer at the CFPTS in Bagnolet and he collaborates with the University of Padua in the theater department.
He regularly tours with different companies, in France and abroad.
His latest video creation concerns the show Bande Magnétique, by the singer Raphaël Haroche at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, directed by Guillaume Vincent, with a tour in France, Switzerland and Belgium.
